What am I cooking? As my chart said from my last blog, for my first week I wanted to grill chicken. There are a lot of reasons I chose to grill chicken first. The big reason is that I absolutely love grilled chicken, and my family does too. Another reason is that it isn't too hard to fix and prepare, so for week one I wanted to do an easier dish. How did I fix the chicken?![]() Yesterday my dad and I marinated the chicken with Italian dressing, Italian herb blend, black pepper, and sriracha sauce. We did this so the chicken would have more flavor and taste better. To grill it today, I first lit the grill by simply put coal in the grill then using a match to light it. While I let the grill heat up I started to cut cabbage and Rosanne for the salad I was making. I did this for about ten minutes then waited about another five minutes for the grill to heat up. After those fifteen minutes I proceeded to put the chicken on the grill. Although this seems like a very simple step I found a way to mess it up. Like I said earlier, I wanted my dad to kinda look over my shoulder for the first few weeks until I knew exactly what I was doing. Apparently you can't just throw the chicken on the grill. There are two reasons for this my dad explained to me, the first is for appearance. Always put the side of the chicken that had skin (the smother side) on the grill face down, by doing this the grill marks will show. You also have to put the chicken on the grill a certain way. By putting the 'fatter' side of the chicken near the fire the meat will cook more evenly which makes it better. After letting the chicken cook for a while, I took the chicken off and the results should be below. The aftermathSo far no one in my family has gotten sick, so that's good. To be serious though, I really enjoyed my chicken and I think since I cooked it, it tasted better. The chicken had a great taste to it and I was happy that I didn't burn it.

My planFor my project I am going to learn how to cook in order to help my family with dinner, and to help me in the future when I will have to cook for myself. I think that it is very important to eat healthy homemade food. Not only is it healthier for you to eat homemade food, it is a lot cheaper than McDonald's. For week one I would like to plan out my schedule for my project, The Breakdown of my chart![]() As shown above my plan is to kinda start off slow because I want to make sure I know what I am doing for my health and the people that will be eating my foods health. I know just how dangerous food born illness is and I really don't want to get sick. I plan on my dad helping me a lot for the first few weeks then slowly transition to just me cooking. Why Cooking? There a lot of reasons that I want to be able to cook, one reason I have already covered. Homemade food is so much cheaper than fast food and it;s so much healthier that there is no reason to not try to learn it. Also I want to help my family because with covid our schedules are destroyed. My dad has always cooked as he went to school to become a chef, so if I want to learn how to cook I have a great teacher. But due to covid he isn't always home to cook and my family CAN NOT cook. It is almost funny how many times we have started to cook and ended up with pizza from domino's.
